The Scrappers used some last-at-bat dramatics to reach the finals of the Ralph Gross Memorial Tournament, but couldn’t overcome some early miscues in the championship game.
Nashville fell to 7AAA rival Ashdown 15-6 in the championship game on Saturday night to earn second place in the 8-team field.
Semifinals
A.J. Whitmore’s 2-run homer in the bottom of the seventh propelled the Scrappers to a 4-2 win over Pleasant Grove (Texas) on Friday.
The blast came with two outs and two strikes against the junior slugger, who connected off PG reliever Blake Yazel.
The Scrappers only had two hits in the game, the other a double by Caleb Jamison. D.J. Graham picked up the win on the mound for Nashville.
First round
The Scrappers used a nine-run fourth inning to cruise past Arkadelphia 16-7 on Thursday.
Whitmore was the winning pitcher and also had two hits. Tyler Serrano clubbed a 2-run homer while Tyler Floyd and Caleb Jamison had two hits each.
