The Scrappers opened the home season with an 11-1 run-rule victory over Genoa Central in six innings on Tuesday.
Justin Rodgers began the game on the mound and tossed four innings of one-hit baseball. Rodgers allowed a run and four walks with six strikeouts. He also helped himself at the plate with a 2-run homer in the fourth.
“Justin had a good day,” NHS Coach Kyle Slayton said. “He got a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand in the second inning and toughed it out for a couple of innings after that.”
D.J. Graham pitched the final two innings in relief and struck out the side in both frames with three walks.
“Not bad,” Slayton said. “We’ve got to get our walks down, though.”
Tyler Floyd had another good day at the plate with a 3-3 day with a double. Derek Scott had two RBI and two hits, while Derek Cox collected an RBI double and a pair of walks.
Justin Davidson had two hits and an RBI and A.J. Whitmore went 2-3 with two RBI and a triple.
Tyler Serrano had a triple.
The Scrappers will next be in action Thursday night as they open the Ralph Gross Memorial Tournament.
