Caddo Board decides to not ask for millage increase October 15, 2008 - No reporter cited

By Mike Wallace

NORMAN - After an executive session to discuss what personnel cuts might have to be made at a later date, the five-person Caddo Hills School Board decided to not ask for a special election early next year to vote again on a millage increase.

In the September school election for a board member and a four mill increase, the millage issue was voted down.

The Caddo Board decided to not ask for an increase at this time. They also decided to not ask the Montgomery County Election Commission to have one polling place for that special election, but to leave the polling places in their present locations.

Superintendent of Schools Don Henley informed the newspaper on Tuesday morning after the October 13 regular monthly meeting that the district will continue to tighten its belt and see where it stands, financially, come June 30 of 2009.

If cuts in staff become necessary, that will be decided as the 2008-2009 school term draws to a close.

VARIED AGENDA

The Caddo School Board began the meeting with an election of officers.

John Hollifield remained a president of the board, Allen Cureton was elected vice president, and Terry Foshee remained as the secretary.

Superintendent Henley asked that four items be added to the printed agenda - facilities, bus driver, a student transfer into the district and USFS funding. This was approved 5-0.

Prior meeting minutes were approved, and the Board members asked a few questions on paid bills.

Henley stated the ending balances in the General and Operating Funds should increase slightly from September 30 to October 31 due to people paying their property taxes.
