Centerpoint Board considers 4 day weekROSBORO – The Centerpoint School Board reluctantly took the resignations of several long-time teachers at their regular meeting Monday evening.
Superintendent Lewis Diggs read letters of resignation from elementary teachers Roger and Anna Henry, who are moving to Farmington to teach and
assist her brother in mission work; from agriculture teacher and bus driver Jerry Yates who is moving to Pottsville to be nearer to family; from Family and Consumer Science teacher Rhonda Palmer who is moving to Caddo Hills; from Marsha Haggard and from Title 1 aide Judy Bardwell.
The board then voted to hire Sean Newton as an elementary art teacher, Sarah Cowart as middle school English teacher, Matt Thornton for the junior high and
Tonya Harrison as a high school teacher.
Diggs then explained the school’s part in a tax reduction program from Great Southern Wood under Act 9. The Alabama-based company which purchased the former Bean Lumber treatment plant asked local governments including Pike County and the city of
Glenwood to allow them to float a $5.5 million bond issue to be used for improvements. As part of this, the city of Glenwood will take possession of the company’s property for 15 years until the note is paid.
