The ribbon cutting and inaugural run for the newest, Mount Ida Area Chamber of Commerce program, kicked off Friday, May 2. Several members of the Chamber were in attendance at the ribbon cutting ceremony where Chamber Board President John Boling addressed those in attendance.

“This program will be a great opportunity to give visitors something extra to do and also an effort to unify local business and encourage growth in commerce,” said Boling.

The scenic bus tours will run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the beginning with potential to increase as demand provides.

The bus service is provided through a partnership with SCAT Transportation and travels through a large part of the county.

Tours begin 10:30 a.m. and include several stops. Among those, the Joplin Store to pick up area lake guests, the base of the Lake Ouachita Vista Trail near Shangri-La, Crystal Inn, the Chamber of Commerce, the Courthouse Square, Heritage House Museum and Wegner Crystal Mine.

There are currently three tour options covering different points of the county. Currently, tours may be scheduled by calling the Chamber of Commerce or the SCAT office.
