Christians basic problems January 22, 2008 - No reporter cited

By Rev. Shirley White-Souder
Pastor of Wiley Chapel UMC, Clow UMC and Center Point UMC.

I, and I do say “I,” believe that many Christians in the church today deal with the basic problems about the ignorance of Jesus Christ, His love and His graces for all. Some of the problems in human life lie in the fact that we as Christians don’t take Jesus Christ seriously or in some cases not at all! In the days of Isaiah, (Isaiah 1:2,3 Living Bible) “The children I have raised and cared for so long and tenderly have turned against me, (v 2). Our God has also charged that “His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” My point exactly! We as Christians need to learn what Christ has said. Who He says He is, what He wants us to do and how He wants us to live.

The other part of the problem is “faith.” Faith is not emotional feelings, or response to the truth, but a response to the learned “truth” in Jesus Christ and kindles and rekindles in our hears to learn more about Him.

The Basic Knowledge of Christ Jesus
1. Reading our Bibles at home during family time and often in our secret closet.
2. Being a part of your church activities.
3. Fellowship with other community churches.
4. Attend Bible studies in your home church or visit other church participating regularly (another choice could be to start one in your home).

According to Philippians 3:10, the scripture states, “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings.” Personally for me, that scripture means loving Him, trusting Him and knowing Him.

Often realizing that a Christian’s first concern should be to know Christ, their Lord, not for gain, or what He can do for us. Often a young Christian wants power, power for service and power for victory. Now this statement reminds me of young people who states they are in Love!

The girls dates a boy whom she thinks can give her everything, or at least affords her habits (now we all know why she went there, right?) Or is this vice versa? Everything but the boy himself is in the picture. This kind of love will not last. My point is, this kind of Christianity doesn’t want to know Christ Jesus, but just wants the benefits and the power.
