GLENWOOD – The City Council held their second meeting for August on Monday night, approving a new ordinance, a resolution and looked at buying 2.6 acres next to the water plant.
The council was read Ordinance 07-02 by Mayor Ron Martin, which is an ordinance banning the keeping, slaughtering or dressing of rabbits, goats, hogs and cattle within the city limits.
Violation of the ordinance can levee a fine of $500. The ordiance was read three times and went into effect immediately. The vote to pass the ordinance was 3-0 with councilmember Verlin Price abstaining.
The only exception for the ordinance is if a person has a permit from the city or state.
The council was read Resolution 07-05, which is a mutual aid agreement between the Glenwood Police Department and the Pike County Sheriff’s Department.
“We have similar agreements with Montgomery County and the City of Amity,” Mayor Ron Martin said. “It is best to have it in writing.”
Councilmember Billy Plyler suggested that the city look at getting a similar agreement with Clark County. This was passed 4-0.
Martin next told the council about an opportunity for the city to buy 2.6 acres of land next to the city water plant from Randy Tidwell. The land includes 7 storage buildings and a large shop, which could hold the city’s moving equipment and trucks and would be a place for city workers to store equipment.
