GLENWOOD – The City Council discussed the ongoing dispute over the depot property in their Monday night meeting as well as a possible ordinance regulating yard sales in the city.

There was some discussion about cutting expenses in the water and sewer department.

“Have we made steps to lower expenses in water and sewer?” councilmember Verlin Price asked.

“Yes, we are transferring one person to cut back on salaries and we are cutting out all overtime unless it is an emergency,” Mayor Ron Martin replied.

Next, the council heard Resolution 08-13, which states the millage levyed for personal and real estate in the city. The current rate is 5.0 mills. This was read by Martin.

The council approved the resolution 3-0.  (Council-member Billy Plyler was absent.)

The council also approved a change order on the Highway 70 sewer project. This was for an increase of $14,292.68 for a new high pressure line from the golf course.

This was approved 3-0.

Martin read a proclamation for Arbor Day, which was October 14. The city celebrated the holiday by planting two new trees in the City Park.

Martin turned the councilmembers attention to a proposed yard sale ordinance.

“We have complaints that yard sales leave signs and trash behind,” he said.
