NASHVILLE – Howard County Judge Max Tackett informed the justices of the peace that construction should resume on the courthouse annex.
By the end of this week, the courthouse construction should resume for the more than 2,200 square feet building after a month long delay. Judge Tackett explained that the delay was due to the unavailability of metal for the building.
Burkhalter and Stevens, Inc., the design and builders, construction manager, ICF installer and general contractor company for the annex.
The company is using insulating concrete forms - a new building system. The ICF’s are 6-inch interlocking modular units, similar to Lego’s, that are dry-stacked and filled with concrete that form the structural walls of a building.
The two-story building will have a concrete roof and walls on the first and second floor and is 54 x 43.
With a 7-1 vote, JP’s approved a $250 contribution for expenses for Sherry Beaty, county agriculture extension agent, to attend a national convention in North Carolina. Beaty said that she was selected by her peers to be awarded for service.
JP Cotton Cothren motioned to contribute the money if it is “legal” to do so while fellow JP Louis Smith voted against it. Smith said that contributing money towards an individual may not be legal.
Judge Tackett announced that more than $2,000 from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission would be available to be awarded to local organizations.
He said that seven groups have applied for the funds and that he will present the names of the organizations at next month’s meeting.
