Early Voting in progress for 2008 Preferential Primary Election, Election to be held May 20 May 14, 2008 - No reporter cited

The 2008 Preferential Primary Election will take place Tuesday, May 20. Early voting is available now, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. May 19 voting will end at 5:00 p.m.

Three candidates are vying for the position of County Judge being left vacant by the retirement of Judge Ted Elder. Alvin Black, of Mount Ida, will represent the Democratic party in the November General Election while two Independent candidates, Galen Burke of Mount Ida and John Diggs of Norman will also be on the November ballot.

Judge J.W. “Jake” Looney, runs unopposed as the Non Partisan Judicial Circuit Court Judge.

William “Bill” McKimm of Mount Ida, runs unopposed as the Non Partisan Judicial candidate for District Court Judge.

Running for the position of Sheriff and Collector, is Democratic candidate and incumbent Sheriff Wendell W. Adams of Mount Ida. Challenging Adams is Democratic candidate Arvard Brown of Pencil Bluff.

Incumbent Debbie Baxter of Mount Ida, is running unopposed in the Primary election as Circuit and County Clerk.

Two candidates are running for the position of County Treasurer. The Treasurer position is left vacant by Alvin Black who is running for County Judge. The candidates for Treasurer are Betty Boling, a Democrat of Mount Ida and Betty J. Dollar, a Democrat of Pine Ridge.

Democratic candidate and incumbent Tammy McCarter of Caddo Gap, runs unopposed in the runoff election for the position of County Assessor.

Two candidates are running for the position of County Coroner. Democratic candidate and incumbent Elece M. Parliament of Mount Ida, is being challenged by Freddy Parliament, a Democrat, also of Mount Ida.

Bob Zickwolf, a Democrat of Mount Ida, runs unopposed in the primary election, for the position of County Surveyor.

Justice of the Peace candidates for the 2008 election are:

District 1 - Johnette Rowland of Sims, Democratic candidate and incumbent.

District 2 - William Tims Edwards of Oden, Independent Candidate and Incumbent Carl Smith of Oden, Democratic candidate.

District 3 - Incumbent Christy Stewart of Mount Ida, Democratic candidate.

District 4 - Incumbent Floyd S. McKinzie of Mount Ida, Democratic candidate.

District 5 - Incumbent Noah Williamson of Mount Ida, Democratic candidate.

District 6 - Incumbent Melissa Powell of Caddo Gap, Democratic candidate.

District 7 - Linda E. Jester of Glenwood, Republican candidate and R. Shawn Luekenga of Glenwood, Democratic candidate. Jester and Luekenga will meet in the November General Election to fill in the position left open by retirement of Kenny McGrew.

District 8 - Incumbent Betty Ruth Williams of Norman, Democratic candidate.

District 9 - Vernon Love of Norman, Democratic candidate and Incumbent Dan McCarter of Norman, Democratic candidate.

With the recent reduction of townships, three current Constables have filed as Democrats, to fill the new Montgomery County South Township position with a fourth candidate as a write-in. The Montgomery County South area includes: Norman In, Norman Out, Caddo Gap, Black Springs, Hopper, Caney, and Alamo.
The four Democratic candidates running for the MC South Constable position are Homer Wayne Ethridge of Norman, Carl D. Main of Caddo Gap, Russell Meeks of Caddo Gap and Loren D. Michener of Norman. The write-in candidate for Montgomery County Central is Terry Todd of Mount Ida.

The deadline for write-in candidates is August 6.
