Second degree sexual assault charges are expected to be filed against twenty-year-old Kristan Chandler McKinnon of Delight.
According to Murfreesboro Police Chief Mark Barnes, officer Randy Lamb was dispatched to the Pike County Hospital at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning in reference to a sexual assault of a 10-year-old Murfreesboro female.
According to the report, the subject spent all day Saturday with the victim and her family at Lake Greeson with the subject stating “he drank alcohol all day.”
Around 10 p.m. that evening, the parents dropped the children off at home and they and McKinnon went to the Timber’s in Murfreesboro. McKinnon was refused entry because he is underage and the father took him back to the family’s home, dropped him off and went back to the Timbers. The parents returned home around 12:30 a.m.
Lamb called the child abuse hotline and they sent an investigator who works in conjunction with the Arkansas State Police to interview the victim and her family.
During the interview, it was found that one child had been asleep during the alleged assault and one had witnessed what was happening to his sister and that he had told McKinnon to stop, but he wouldn’t.
The girl stated that when she managed to get away from McKinnon, she hid from him until he passed out.
It was also alleged that McKinnon forced the children to drink beer and smoke cigarettes with him.
Second degree sexual assault is a Class B felony. Circuit Judge Charles Yeargan set McKinnon’s bond at $100,000 Monday.
McKinnon is a convicted felon on parole.
In other police news:
On Thursday at 10:50 p.m. Barnes was traveling in his personal vehicle on N. Maple St., where a lot of thefts have been occuring, when he noticed three males walking down the street. He notified officer Johnny Ledbetter to go to the scene. Ledbetter found two juveniles and twenty-year-old Curtis W. Dick of Murfreesboro. When Dick was asked for his identification, he produced an Army I.D. Local law enforcement had prior knowledge that Dick had been discharged from the army and the I.D. was seized. During a pat down on Dick, a cigarette pack was found containing a small plastic bag with a hand rolled cigarette and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Dick was arrested and transported to Pike County Jail where he was issued a citation for possession of a controlled substance.
On Friday at 10:50 p.m. Lamb performed a routine traffic stop on a vehicle without any tags. When he walked up to the vehicle he noticed an open beer in the center console.
The owner of the vehicle, 21-year-old Justin Byers of Nashville, gave Lamb consent to search the vehicle and a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana was found in the pocket of a pair of shorts in the floorboard. Byers claimed the marijuana and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. In the bed of the truck, a cigarette pack was found with a suspected marijuana cigarette inside of it. Twenty-nine-year-old Jefferey Jackson of De Queen and 25-year-old Michael Cornish of Murfreesboro claimed that to be theirs and they were also arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Arkansas State Trooper Phillip Glascow assisted Lamb and issued alcohol citations.
On Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Lamb was dispatched to a residence on Terrell St. for a welfare check on Callie Gower. The Pike County Sheriff’s Office had received a call from a co-worker of Gower that she had called in and said she was unable to work because her boyfriend had beaten her up. When Lamb arrived at the residence, he was told that Gower had left on foot and he was unable to locate her at that time. Later that night while working another case, Lamb was advised of Gower’s location. Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy David Shelby assisted Lamb by bringing Gower to Lamb’s location. Gower stated that her boyfriend Kirk Wright and his sister Larissa Wright had attacked her in the Timber’s parking lot as she was trying to leave. Gower had a bite mark on her arm that she stated Larissa Wright did and a black-eye and abrasions on her knee that she said Kirk did.
Lamb and Shelby returned to Terrell St. and arrested Kirk Wright for domestic battery. As Shelby was putting Larissa Wright into the police unit he noticed she was chewing a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana. She was arrested for third degree battery and possession of a controlled substance.
