NASHVILLE - The 11th Annual Howard County Children’s Center Radio/Telethon will be held on May 7 at the Carter Day Center from 7 p.m. until 10 or later on KJEP-TV.

Repairs and remodeling for HCCC come from donations and pledges made through the annual Rotary Club sponsored telethon and other events.

All proceeds will go to fund repairing and remodeling HCCC.

The HCCC began more than 30 years ago as a small educational operation for 12 clients with disabilities, and has now developed into a multi-building center serving 132 adult clients and growing.

The center also includes the Rainbow Learning Center Preschool that provides education to children from two months to 5 years old with disabilities, and also those who do not have disabilities.

HCCC currently sits on 31 acres of land and is continuing to grow.

Daily living skills are taught within the Adult Development program. Clients learn about current, past, local and nation-wide news events, as well as learning how to properly write checks, balance checkbooks, make grocery lists, separate laundry and cook.

The Adult Education Program also teaches personal safety, hygiene and grooming, financial management and social interaction.

The center also handles the recycling efforts in Nashville, Howard County and the surrounding counties as well. The program has grown so much that the center recently added another horizontal baler to its cardboard recycling area.

The recycling center has a plastic drop-off as well and the public is welcome to recycle there.

The center services clients within Howard County, and parts of Sevier, Pike and Hempstead Counties, as well as therapeutic services for their clients.
