It’s crunch time May 8, 2008 - No reporter cited

Folks, May 20 is just around the corner and we need to decide who we are going to vote for in our local elections.

Several of you may have already voted during the early voting period that started Monday. Others may be waiting til the ‘big’ day.

I enjoy voting on election days. The excitment at the polling place is electric.

But, the big race is for president.

Who will do the best job leading our nation for the next four years. The Democrats are still battling over super delegates and the nomination, while John McCain has started campaigning against both of his rivals.

McCain is pointing out the flaws in both Democrat candidates. HMMMM… where to start.

One is a young up-and-coming politican. It just so happens he is also the first viable African-American candidate. Barack Obama is a great speaker, but his age and lack of experience on the global stage may be detrimental to his run for the White House.

Another stumbling block for Obama may be his pastor, a man that provided him with spiritual guidence for the past several years.

But, Obama came out and said “I heard what Rev. Wright was saying, but I didn’t agree with it.” Sounds like Obama may be Baptist. We hear what the preacher says, but we believe what we want anyway.

The other is a member of the ‘good old boys club’ even though she is a woman. Hillary Clinton has been in politics so long she doesn’t even remember what it is like to pay rent.

Clinton has stood by her man from the Governor’s Mansion in Arkansas to the White House in Washington and knows all the best restaurants in the world.
The question is, ‘Can Hillary lead the nation?”

She has difficulties remembering complete stories of her own life. She calls them misquotes. I call them lies.

And, she defends people that don’t stand for American values… You know, the values that I believe are important.

McCain is not perfect, but he seems to have a grasp on global polictics and the role that America plays on that stage.

The economy is going to be a huge topic. Money is tight and if gas keeps going up, we will all be walking ‘for our health’ more and more.

I don’t know who the best president will be, but I do know that the best man for the job is not running. Someday, I will venture off into that world of mudslinging and press some flesh… but until then vote for the candidate of your choice. But, please base your vote on honesty, integrity, ability and not their race or gender. This election is too important to be blinded by such things.

You have the right to vote, so use it. Take the time to consider your future and the future of our nation.

But, this is just my view from the canopy of the jungle.
