Jarred Carlyle named first-team All-GSC for third consecutive season April 21, 2008 - No reporter cited

BIRMINGHAM – Arkansas Tech’s Jarred Carlyle has been named a First-Team All-Gulf Conference Men’s Golf selection on Friday by the league office.

Carlyle became just the third three-time First-Team honoree in the history of the league and the first Wonder boy to earn that distinction. The other two three-time First-Team honorees are West Florida’s Stuart Manley (1998, 2000 and 2001) and Matthew Galloway (2006-2008).

The men’s golf coaches in the league voted for the team and the coaches weren’t allowed to vote for their own players.

Carlyle, a junior from Nashville, is a repeat first team honoree after leading the way for Tech with a 72.6 scoring average in 13 rounds of golf and seven tournaments this season. On the season, Carlyle has had three top five finishes; including taking home individual medalist honors at the Natural State Classic this week in Heber Springs, and has finished in the top 25 at two other tournaments. At the Natural State Classic, Carlyle shot a six-under par 136 to win the tournament. On the season, he has had four rounds in the 60s, including a season-best 67 in the final round of the Natural State Classic.

Carlyle and the rest of the Wonder Boys will return to action next week when they compete in the 2008 GSC Golf Championships at the Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs. The meet will get underway with 36 holes on Monday, April 21 and conclude with another 18 holes on Tuesday, April 22. Tech finished third last season as the Wonder Boys shot an 869 for the tournament.

Carlyle said he plans to attend Q-school in South Carolina following graduation. At Q-school, Carlyle will attend to earn his tour card to play on a professional golf tour
