Norman voters approve one-percent sales tax September 5, 2007 - No reporter cited

NORMAN — Residents of the City of Norman voted to adopt a one percent sales and use tax within the City of Norman in a special election held August 14.
According to documents in the Montgomery County Clerk’s Office, adoption of the one percent sales and use tax passed by a 30-7 margin.

Officials of the Montgomery County Election Commission certified the election results on August 16.

According to the ballot used in the election, the one percent sales and use tax will be used to improve city streets, fire protection and water and sewer and sewer service.

The ballot calls for one-half percent to go to the street fund, one-quarter percent to go to the fire fund and one-quarter percent to go to the water-sewer fund.

Thirty-seven residents of Norman voted in the special election, representing about a 12 percent voter turnout, according to an employee in the county clerk’s office.
