CADDO HILLS - The visiting Dierks Lady Outlaws scored two runs in the top of the first inning and another in the third, then used defense to hold off the host Caddo Lady Indians for a 3-1 conference game April 21.

Sheyanne Muse and Whitney Icenhower scored in the top of the first inning and those runs eventually proved enough for the Lady Outlaws. An insurance run in the top of the third kept the Lady Indians just slightly off balance and led to the 3-1 win for the visitors.

Samantha Davis led off the Caddo half of the first inning. She and Coral Moore were thrown out at first. Kristina Forest popped up to the Dierks catcher Tara Helms.

Candi Kykendall led of the second for Dierks. She went down swinging as Caddo pitcher Kristina Forest threw it past her. Beth House popped up to the Caddo short stop Moore who ran down the ball behind third base. Dierks Halee Delarosa popped up to Davis at first.

Dierks pitcher Emily Jackson struck out Kara Counts and Kristen Warneke, and Kristen Workman was thrown out at first base to end the second inning.

Lady Outlaw Kelsey Stuard topped the pitch from Forest as Dierks left fielder opened up the third inning. The ball went about three feet out and bounced up about 10 feet. By the time the ball came down and was handled by Workman from behind the plate, Stuard was at first base.

Muse went down swinging for the first out. Icenhower laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Stuard to second. As third base player Kara Counts came in to handle the bunt, no one covered third base so Stuard motored on past second to third base.

Tara Helms was the next batter for Dierks. She hit a high pop up in the infield. Three Caddo players converged on it, but no one caught it. Helms was safe at first with an RBI to her credit as Stuard scored for the Lady Outlaws. This made it 3-0.

Helms stole second, but Jackson was thrown out at first by Moore to end the third inning.

Neither team scored in the fourth through sixth inning as Jackson and Forest reigned supreme from the mound.

Jackson did hit a shot down the third base line in the sixth inning. Amanda Barbe came in to run for her. Barbe stole second and third bases on high pitches by Forest which got by Workman. Forest struck out Reagan Moore to end the sixth.

Dierks tried to score in the top of the seventh. Beth House drew a walk and an single by Stuard to left field moved House to second. House tried to stretch the play to making third base, but was tagged out by Coral Moore at the bag.

Caddo came up for its final try trailing 3-0. Moore was thrown out at first. Kristina Forest was safe at first , stole second and third bases, and came home on a wild pitch for a 3-1 score. Kara Counts went down swinging. Kristen Warneke tried to keep the Caddo effort alive fouling off numerous pitches from Jackson.

Warneke was thrown out at first ending the game.

Both squads head to the district tournament at Murfreesboro. That tourney runs from Saturday, April 26, into Tuesday, April 29.

The Lady Outlaws will start district tournament play Monday, April 28, at 6 p.m. at Murfreesboro.
