NASHVILLE - Tuesday’s consolation game between Nashville and CAC was moved to Wilson Park due to the amount of rainfall that Ashdown received Tuesday morning. Nashville made the most of their home field advantage by defeating the Mustangs 12-7.
Michael Nava pitched all seven innings for the Scrappers, while CAC used four different pitchers in the contest.
CAC gave up 10 hits to the Scrappers and walked three while striking out four.
Nava struck out 10, walked 11 and only gave up two hits.
Geno Jameson had both hits for the Mustangs. Jameson’s first hit was a grand slam homerun in the fifth inning and his second was a two-run homer in the seventh, but Jameson didn’t have any help to overcome the Scrappers.
Nashville opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Tyler Serrano was hit by a pitch and scored while CAC attempted to throw Luke Jamison out at second. Bubba Browning picked up the first of his three RBIs by driving in Jamison with a shot to leftfield.
Nashville’s big inning came in the second when the Scrappers scored seven runs as 10 batters went to the plate to face reliever Fletcher Dowell.
Nick Reeves led off with a single. Lane Chism moved him to third on a bunt-single. Chism advanced to second on the Mustangs throw to third. Michael Milum drove in Reeves on a hit to rightfield and took second on an errant throw.
The next two Scrappers reached on errors by CAC. Jamison hit an RBI single and two more runs scored on more errors by the Mustangs.
Browning would collect his second RBI with a sacrifice fly to left field. The Scrappers would only get one more hit in the inning, but the damage was already done.
CAC got on the scoreboard in the third. The Mustangs’ Grey Larkan scored on a wild pitch, but Nava tagged Ian Bryan out at home as he attempted to score on another wild pitch later in the inning.
Cade Richards drove a pitch back up through the box in the fourth inning. Richards was moved to third on a single by Alan Copeland to put runners at the corners with one out. Richards would score on an error by the CAC pitcher to put the Scrappers up 9-1 going into the fifth inning.
Jameson took advantage of three walks in a row by Nava and slapped a grand slam homerun to bring the Mustangs to within four of the Scrappers.
Browning would pick up his third RBI as pitch runner Daniel Aylett scored to give the Scrappers a five run lead.
Following a one-two-three inning by Nava, two more Scrappers crossed the plate as Milum got a hit past the Mustang first baseman.
Jameson would hit his second homer of the game in the seventh inning, but it proved to be too little, too late.
Nashville will play Friday at 6:30 at Valley View High School in Jonesboro.
