South Pike County Water board votes on recommendationThe South Pike County Arkansas Water Facilities Board met Thurs., Feb. 15, to vote on a recommendation from NRS Engineering.
The recommendation was that a section consisting of eight to 10 customers be cut from the water project. The exclusion would save the project around $250,000. Customers affected by the cut would include areas at the intersection of Cowhide Cove Road and Chaney Trace Road, and along Highway 27 South to Laurel and Wall Creek.
The Pike City Rural Water Association was contacted by the water board to discuss the possibility of picking up the customers that have been cut.
The vote passed with a 4-1 margin.
Another NRS recommendation approved by the board was the removal of a proposed pump station from the Parker Creek area. This will eliminate $200,000 in costs.
The board also voted to attempt to acquire a deferred loan from Arkansas Natural Resource in the amount of $150,000.
Contracts were also approved by the board for the $3.8 million project.
The Narrows Dam portion was awarded to Southern Electric Corporation of Mississippi at $1,812,677.91.
The Highway 301 South project was awarded to Lynnson, Inc. at $363.926 and the pump stations and tanks were awarded to Dual Construction at $1,158,100.
The board also voted to honor the previous boards committment to the Riverside community and allow homeowners to sign-up for a discounted price of $510 plus a $50 deposit. The community was initially signed up to access only one meter.
Member of the board Chuck King gave his resignation and recommended that Charles Wilson replace him. The board will decide Mr. King’s replacement at their next meeting.
