Three county positions up for grabs in MCBy Danielle Cummings

MOUNT IDA – The 2008 Preferential Primary Election will be held May 20. Three county positions are being left vacant by retirements and runs for office.
Longtime County Judge Ted Elder is retiring after 16 years in office, leaving the position vacant with three contenders. Alvin Black, of Mount Ida, will represent the Democratic party in the November General Election while two Independent candidates, Galen Burke of Mount Ida and John Diggs of Norman will also be on the November ballot.
Judge J.W. “Jake” Looney, runs unopposed as the Non Partisan Judicial Circuit Court Judge.
William “Bill” McKimm of Mount Ida, runs unopposed as the Non Partisan Judicial candidate for District Court Judge.
Running for the position of Sheriff and Collector, is Democratic candidate and incumbent Sheriff Wendell W. Adams of Mount Ida. Challenging Adams is Democratic candidate Arvard Brown of Pencil Bluff.
Incumbent Debbie Baxter of Mount Ida, is running unopposed in the Primary election as Circuit and County Clerk.
Two candidates are running for the position of County Treasurer. The Treasurer position is left vacant by Alvin Black who is running for County Judge. The candidates for Treasurer are Betty Boling, a Democrat of Mount Ida and Betty J. Dollar, a Democrat of Pine Ridge.
Democratic candidate and incumbent Tammy McCarter of Caddo Gap, runs unopposed in the runoff election for the position of County Assessor.
