Eight different Scrapper players would reach base and six different players would score runs as the Nashville Scrappers defeated the Murfreeboro Rattlers 9-3 Friday, April 18, at Wilson Park in Nashville.
Luke Jamison continued to solidify himself as the ace of the Scrapper pitching staff with another solid outing.
Jamison gave up three runs on eight hits and struck out nine batters while walking three for the win.
Ethan Crocker was credited with the loss for the Rattlers after giving up nine runs on thirteen hits. Crocker also walked one batter while striking out five.
The Scrappers started their domination of the Rattlers from the top of the first inning.
Jamison struck out the first batter he faced to start the inning on a good note. The infield would then contribute when Scrapper second baseman Michael Milum fielded a shot hit up the middle and threw the batter out for the second out.
Marc McRae would reach base for the Rattlers by beating out a dropped third strike. It wouldn’t matter because Scrapper centerfielder Tyler Serrano would catch a flyball for the third out to end the inning.
The Scrappers would carry the momentum from their defensive efforts to the batter’s box by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Milum would get things started for the Scrapper offense when he drove the ball to center field for a base hit. Michael Nava would reach base also on a shot to center field, which would score Milum for the first Scrapper run of the afternoon.
Bubba Browning would drive Nava home for the second run of the inning, but that would be the last score until the third inning for the Scrappers.
The third started out much like the first. Jamison would only face three batters in the top half of the inning while throwing two strike outs for two of the three outs of the inning.
Nava would get things going for the Scrappers in the bottom half of the third inning with a home run to center field.
Jamison would reach base on a base hit up the middle of the field and would later score on a well-hit ball to left field, giving the Scrappers a 4-0 lead by the time the Rattlers could bring the inning to a close.
The Rattler bats would wake up in the fifth inning and challange the Scrapper lead.
Garrett Gills would get things started for the Rattlers with base hit up the middle of the field. Tyler McRae would follow Gills with a base hit of his own to move Gills to second.
Colby Risner would drive in the first Rattler run of the game scoring Gills.
T. McRae would later score on a base hit by Crocker. Risner would score the third run of the inning for the Rattlers before the Scrappers were able to end the inning with their lead still intact.
Five of the first six Scrapper batters in the fifth inning would score to secure the victory for the Scrappers.
Nava and Jamison would reach base on base hits before both would score when a throw to first base following a bunt by Browning got past the Rattler first baseman.
Browning would score off a Nick Reeves base hit. Reeves would score on a long fly ball hit by Cade Richards who would end up with a standing triple for his efforts.
This was to be the last Scrapper runs of the inning and the game, but it would prove to be enough for the Scrapper victory.
Gills would take the mound for the Rattlers in the sixth inning and record one walk and one strike while not giving up any more runs, but the Rattler offense was unable to capatilize in their last at bat losing the game 9-3.
Nava was the big bat for the Scrappers Friday with two singles and a home run with three runs and two RBI’s.
Jamison proved that he is a well rounded player by helping his own cause out with two hits and two runs.
Reeves contributed three hits, a run and an RBI while collecting a walk as well for the Scrappers.
The Scrappers look to continue their winning ways into the 7-4A district tournament, starting April 25.
Gills led the Rattlers with two hits and a run while Risner had one hit, one run and an RBI.
The Rattlers hope to shake off the loss and reestablish their winning ways in the 7-2A West district tournament starting April 23 in Caddo Hills.
